If someone could answer me I would really appreciate it. My theory is that it could be an appetite suppresant?

I think the spice helps cleanse out excess mucous and whatnot.

From what I understand after researching a night of eating to many habanero peppers, that the 'heat' can actually be good for your system. Hot foods are popular in a lot of cultures because they help 'burn?' some bad bacteria in your intestinal path. Too much can be bad for you, but it can even be used to help settle an upset stomach with some bad food.

The peoppers are measured in BTU's (heat index), and on the clease, the more BTUs you can take, the better it is for cleaning out your system.
